ShelleyHawkins_NEW1501. When did you realize you wanted to write and how long was it before you took action to turn your dream into reality?

On my 13th birthday, my oldest sister gave me a journal. It was called an empty book at the time. “You write your thoughts in it,” she said. So I did. My adolescent frustrations and observations found their way to those pages with spotty regularity.

Years later, during the ten year transformative experience of environmental illness my writing began in earnest and entered my mind as something to “do.”

An ongoing email conversation with a dear friend, Doug, during those years of relative isolation help me develop my thought processes on virtual paper and the flame was lit.

2. What kind of writing do you do or want to do?

So far, I have focused on non-fiction and a bit of poetry. I have focused on inspiring others in becoming themselves, living the intentional, creative, and inspired life, and the ability to live deliberately with greater understanding of living from a quantum perspective.

1. When did you realise you wanted to write and how long was it before you took action to turn your dream into reality?

I have been writing in a journal since being a young girl.  I have always loved writing and reading, two passions that feed each other well.  I am not sure exactly when I started taking action to turn my writing dreams into reality, but it feels like it was the moment I decided to call myself a “writer” and claim this as part of my identity.  Declaration has a lot to do with making our dreams come true!

2. What kind of writing do you do – or want to do – fiction, non-fiction, poetry …  feel free to mention more than one?

I write creative non-fiction in many forms.  I publish a monthly Creative Wellness Museletter for my coaching business.  I blog (http://creativewellnessworks.com/special/blog/ ) and I publish articles both on and offline.  I have written 2-ebooks regarding writing and journaling for health.  I have 2 books in progress at the moment, including a memoir project entitled Umbilical Cord: An Adoptee’s Journey from Loss to Love as well as a co-authored (with Dr. Ahava Shira & Wendy Judith Cutler) book entitled Writing Alone Together: Journaling Within a Circle of Women for Creativity, Compassion and Connection.  I have another book brewing, see response number 5.

AnnOkeife1501. When did you realise you wanted to write and how long was it before you took action to turn your dream into reality?

I have loved to write since I was 10 years old and won a poetry contest at school. Fast forward to me at 35 years old … and I tentatively joined a fantastic and supportive writing group in Brighton. I still attend this with the “lovely ladies” who come from all walks of life, with differing styles.  I’ve had articles published in various local magazines and papers about Runes, Gratitude and Healing. Last year I was published in the Gratitude Project: Book of Pets. Ideally I have at least 3 books I want to write and publish.

2. What kind of writing do you do – or want to do – fiction, non-fiction, poetry …  feel free to mention more than one?

Non Fiction, fiction and articles. I am an expert in the Runes and run a successful Gratitude Group. I would love to deepen and expand on these subjects.

BJ_McCabe1501. When did you realise you wanted to write and how long was it before you took action to turn your dream into reality?

I realized I wanted to be a “writer” precisely on April 13, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. when my 83 year old mother invited me to speak to thirty seniors attending day programming about my work in storytelling and introduced me as, “This is my daughter Betty Jo and she is a… ah… writer?” Mom paused long, turned to me and said, “Would you say that is what you are… a writer?” In the moment I was mystified at the weirdness of it all, but weird continued to inform me and grew into personal significance. I have always been a writer and not once have I ever called myself one – until now. I am a writer.

2. What kind of writing do you do – or want to do – fiction, non-fiction, poetry …  feel free to mention more than one?

I love to write slice of life stories that can be told in 3 – 5 minutes. I am growing a collection of women’s true stories called Pandora’s Daughters. Tell me your story and I will help you to find your true voice and shape your story so that others can hear. I also love to write about my experiences in the natural world and step into the other world of myth, fairy and folklore.

PamelaOCuneen1501. When did you realise you wanted to write and how long was it before you took action to turn your dream into reality?

I have been writing since I was about 5 planning stories and books. I have always written but despite desultory efforts at getting articles etc published, a few successes, and an unfinished journalism course, did not seriously begin writing a book for publication until four years ago , in my 60s.

2. What kind of writing do you do – or want to do – fiction, non-fiction, poetry?

Non-fiction, memoirs, and some books on meditation and spiritual topics.  I would also like to write novels.

3. What inspires you most as a writer including any particular authors or books which have had a strong influence on you?

How many books have we all read in a lifetime of bookworm activity.  Every book I read inspires me in some way.

Linda Loganathan1. When did you realise you wanted to write and how long was it before you took action to turn your dream into reality?

It was around 1998.  In December of that year, my first grandchild was born.  With her birth something in me was stirring to be born too.  I bought the Artists and Writers Yearbook, began to buy and read magazines about becoming a writer.

I was living in Lincolnshire at the time.  I bought a small notebook and began to walk daily by the water near my home.  On my return, I would open my notebook and begin to write.  This was before I knew anything about Morning Pages!

When my granddaughter was around six months, I had an inspiration to begin a correspondence with her about her stages of baby development, as though I were Winnie the Pooh.  Then she (my grandaughter) would reply to me (Winnie).  It was all rather whimsical and funny.  I really enjoyed it.

I continued this process over a period of 5 to 6 months in the summer and autumn of 1999.  Around a year later, I collated them in a spiral bound booklet and called them Letters to Chloe.

Carol_Coronis1501. When did you realize you wanted to write and how long was it before you took action to turn your dream into reality?

As a child I loved the story and the way it developed. My archetypal energies showed up in the books I read. I was drawn to adventure, super hero’s, seekers of truth, challenge and resolution, and always a lesson in compassion and strength of character.

I didn’t realize I wanted to write until the passion to change the MO of a community took over, and with a partner started a city regional magazine. I love that we had a mission statement and proud to have been the recipient of The Mayor’s Award for Distinguished Public Service.

Brenda Cyr1. When did you realise you wanted to write and how long was it before you took action to turn your dream into reality?

I think I have always wanted to write, since I held my first crayon. I have always had a journal, and enjoyed exploring random thoughts with pen and paper. Somewhere between growing up, and experiencing life, I put the pen down, and settled for reading other peoples thoughts. I was still lost in words, they just weren’t my own. Although I have always wanted to write a book, I made millions of excuses that prevented me. Now, I am ready to face the blank page, and fill it with my own thoughts and life lessons. So, it has taken me about 50 years to take my first baby step!

GlenStrathy1501. When did you realise you wanted to write and how long was it before you took action to turn your dream into reality?

I realized I wanted to write while in grade 5 – at age 10 – and I have been writing ever since in one form or another. I have tried my hand at poetry and drama. In university I wrote theatre and film reviews for the student paper. Ten years ago, I was fortunate to find a niche where I am able to make a good living as a professional freelance writer.
