Conscious Journaling to Clear Your Mind, Open Your Heart and Unlock Your Creativity

November 8, 2016

journal-431912_640I’ve written a journal on and off for many years and have always felt the benefit of doing so. It complements the ‘project writing’ I do beautifully and periodically I’m reminded of just how much I appreciate having this superb tool in my creative treasury!

Journal writing has supported me in so many ways to navigate the waves of transformation as I release what no longer fits my current reality and make the transition into the next phase of my life and my work.

Right now, I’m inspired to remind you that a conscious and creative approach to journaling, what I call Yin-Style or Conscious Journaling, is an extremely valuable practice that is well worth making a priority in your life. In fact it’s one of the five core practices of Conscious Writing. Here’s why, and how… (more…)

Full Member Guest Article: Write for Yourself – 4 Ways Journaling Can Make You a Better Writer by Lynda Monk

April 8, 2013

Journaling is a form of personal writing practice that can create the sacred ground from which all of your other creative and conscious writing can flow.

Journaling is a record of a life lived and is a tool for observing both your inner and outer world.  Good writing, in part, includes our ability to observe, to really see and understand, from multiple perspectives, the world around us and within us.

I have been journaling, on and off, since I was a young girl.  I never thought of myself as a writer when I was journaling even though I filled thousands of blank pages with words, ideas and stories.

I am not exactly sure when I started thinking of myself as a “writer” but it had something to do with transitioning from writing in the privacy of my journal to writing for the public through articles, blog posts, newsletters, workbooks, training manuals, personal essays, and e-books.

In others words, journaling helped me discover and then claim my identity as a writer.

How Journal Writing Enriches Your Writing Life

January 23, 2012

07. Morning2300972XSmallTravelling alone to the other side of the world to visit a new country and experience a different culture is an ideal opportunity to dive deeply into journal writing.

This is especially the case if the primary focus of the trip is to go on a retreat which encourages inner reflection as a process of creative exchange with the outer environment.

Having recently returned from such an adventure with a journal packed to overflowing with fresh observations, realisations and ideas, I’m inspired to share this reminder of the immense value of journal writing.

Of course, you don’t need to go anywhere to experience the benefits of writing in a journal. You simply need to commit to a regular practice that is, in this case, for your eyes only.

Many people see blogging as a way of writing a journal online to share with others. It can indeed work well for that purpose and some writers have enjoyed real success with that approach.

Yet private journal writing is a different practice. It delivers rich rewards, some of which may well find their way out to the world, but usually these will show up in a new form or be the invisible inspiration behind a creative project.
