The Transformative Value of a Conscious and Creative Reboot

March 8, 2016

fire-1021224_640The last year has been a massive reality check for me with regard to the sheer volume of time, energy and effort that is required to see a book through from manuscript completion to successful publication.

Looking back it feels like the conscious writing process to craft the body of work that became my book was the easy part, although it didn’t always feel like that at the time!

Fortunately, my daily practice of yoga, meditation and more largely enabled me to remain present to what ‘is’ through the roller coaster ride of the publishing process. It was a high priority for me to be connected to inner stillness amidst the array of outer activities, all of which involved absolute deadlines.

Yet as the months passed, the more fatigued I felt, the harder it became to maintain the fullness of my balanced perspective. Finally, the moment came when all the major projects were completed, the launch momentum settled and I was able to stop for more than a brief interlude.

Taking time off to recharge was an extremely welcome immersion in the bliss of stillness, silence, space and the restorative energy of the natural world. I subsequently felt prompted to write a short piece to share my experience and encourage you to remember the importance of what I lovingly call a conscious and creative reboot.

Here it is…

Nurturing Our Creative Soul as Conscious Writers

March 11, 2015

I am delighted to share this edited extract from my new book, ‘Conscious Writing: How to Write from Your Heart with the Voice of Your Soul’ (Hay House, September 2015). Enjoy 🙂

creative_wellNurturing our creative soul as Conscious Writers involves frequently filling our inner creative well so that it never runs dry and always allows our creativity to flow freely.

Conscious Creativity teaches us to do this by connecting with the whole creative cycle, and honouring each and every phase.

Yet such an approach is rarely accepted as a valid use of our precious time. Instead we are drawn by the demands of contemporary life in the western world to busy ourselves with endless ‘doing’, and direct our energy exclusively outwards to support family and friends, earn our living, and maintain our personal space.

Whilst we all need to honour our commitments respectfully, let’s remember this process begins with honouring our commitments to ourselves.

In the fast lane of doing all that seems essential, we often forget to replenish our inner resources beyond basic recharging which sees us through to the next stint on the treadmill of activity.

As a result, our output frequently far outweighs the input so we end up feeling exhausted, empty, and eventually, resentful and unwell. No wonder creative dreams are so often unfulfilled!

How to be Present as an Authentic Author in the World

February 22, 2010

microphoneWithCrowdThere are 7 Core Principles underlying the success of every conscious and creative writer. These principles are all about accessing the right state of consciousness and applying the right mindset to your writing, and to all activities relating to your authorship, for the best results at every level.

We have already explored the first principle of Presence as applied to your writing on the page (read that article by clicking here …) Now we are turning our attention to being present as an authentic author in the world.

In days gone by, spiritual seekers would remove themselves from everyday life in order to experience a true state of Presence which is when even the direct connection to Source dissolves and the awareness of being Source is revealed.

Today, although this remains an important spiritual path for some, increasingly the calling is to engage with the world at this core level of truth.

As a conscious and creative writer, being present when taking your writing out to the world lifts the quality of your experience to the highest level. It is here that you experience the greatest and most deeply fulfilling rewards of authentic authorship.

From here, your contribution is recognized and valued for what it is and the results you achieve from the actions you take will bring you the greatest possible rewards.

So here are 3 ways to be present as an authentic author in the world:

How to be Present with Your Writing on the Page

February 8, 2010

Green_water_drop_ripples_presenceThere are 7 Core Principles underlying the success of every conscious and creative writer. These principles are all about accessing the right state of consciousness and applying the right mindset to your writing, and to all activities relating to your authorship, for the best results at every level.

The first, and perhaps the most important of principle of all, is that of Presence.

Being fully awake to the moment – the Now – points towards the truth of what it means to be totally Present. The emphasis here is on Being rather than doing, essence rather than form. Our innate search for wholeness ends here.

Here you connect directly to the true source of your most inspired ideas and understand the infinite nature of conscious creativity.

Presence frees you from being stuck with certain expectations and enables you to let go of feeling attached to the outcome of your creative efforts. In turn, this opens the way for ‘greater forces’, your divine muse, to contribute to your creative writing process and inspire your words to reach your readers with true impact.

So here are 3 ways to be present with your writing on the page:
