3 Ways to Plan for Success as a Published Author

April 8, 2015

Female rock climber reaching the summit.Completing the final draft of a manuscript is a major threshold for any writer to cross, and is certainly worth celebrating as a significant achievement in its own right.

Once we have surfaced from whatever degree of conscious and creative recharge we require, a whole new level of our progress towards successful published authorship begins.

Naturally, we need to plan ahead to ensure that we stay on track with our intentions to reach our readers with our message and stories.

Yet as Conscious Writers, we are mindful of remaining present in the moment with all aspects of ourselves in alignment despite the future focus. This is how we retain congruence between our head and our heart to guide us as we make important decisions along the way.

Whether we are working with a traditional publisher or choosing the indie self-publishing route, planning for success as a published author means that in addition to our writing, our attention is required for many other activities.

So what are the main areas we need to focus on to give our book the best possible chance of success in the world?

What’s new this month?

March 13, 2015

JuliaMcCutchen_darkpurple150Hi Conscious & Creative Writers!

As the days lengthen and the light increases with the onset of spring here in the northern hemisphere, I’m delighted to share that my new book is now finished!

I am somewhat in awe of the of the intensely challenging and richly rewarding process of having written this book from the deepest inside out space it has been possible for me to inhabit at this time.

Yet, stepping back and reviewing the manuscript with a fresh eye after a short break, it feels very much like ‘mission accomplished’!

I’ll look forward to hearing your reaction when it is published in September. In the meantime, there are two opportunities for you to experience the contents directly to guide and support your conscious and creative projects this year.

Scholarship 2015 – Applications Invited

Applications for our 3rd annual scholarship which offers FREE and discounted places for the six month Mentoring Series are now invited.

This opportunity to receive intuitive professional guidance to make tangible progress with your writing ideas has been described as a deep and transformative experience… by the end of the Scholarship, I had completed the first draft of my book.”

The application deadline is the Spring Equinox, Saturday 21 March. To read more, click here.

Conscious Writing Retreat – Two Pay Option

The Early Bird tickets for our retreat which is taking place from Friday 22 to Monday 25 May are now sold out but we have introduced a two pay option so that you can spread the investment over two months.

Why not join us and give yourself the gift of time and space away from the regular routines of everyday life to focus on moving your writing ideas and project(s) forwards this year?

The immersion in three days of conscious living and deep creative exploration will be a memorable and rewarding experience. But don’t just take my word for it – watch some video testimonials and read the words of previous participants by clicking here.

Finally, it seems appropriate to share an edited extract from my book with you this month. It is a reminder of the importance of nurturing your creative soul at every phase of the creative cycle. Read the article by clicking here.

Enjoy!

“I signed up for one-to-one coaching with Julia’s Conscious Writing Mentoring series at the start of my book writing process. She helped me get clear on who I was as a writer and gave me a wonderful starting point for getting my writing plan together.

In less than a year, I had my book fully completed!

I also used the excellent tools in her Home Study Masterclass on How to Write the Ultimate Book Proposal and found myself a leading literary agent. A worldwide book deal followed within a few short weeks!

I highly recommend Julia as a coach and mentor.  A big thank you to her for the excellent advice, support and guidance along the way.”

Writers Need to Learn From the Best

April 25, 2011

Excellence_Gold_StarsWhen you are new to writing, there is inevitably a great deal to learn as you work your way towards becoming a published author. This learning happens at many different levels and is an important part of the journey.

If you’re committed to your craft, the learning doesn’t stop once you know how to write a first draft or complete a good book proposal. There are always deeper levels of conscious creativity to explore within yourself and more to benefit from knowing about all aspects of authorship.

There is a great deal of information from many different “experts” around these days and making sure you are learning from the best is an important lesson in itself.

So what criteria should you use to judge the quality of the information you discover?

Here are some general guidelines:

1. Only take advice from those getting the results you seek.

The first time you look for an outside opinion on your writing represents an important threshold. Whether you want feedback on your ideas or comments about your writing style, you may feel drawn to ask the people you already know for their views.

Understandable though this may be, I’d like to sound a note of caution. Well-meaning friends, family members and colleagues can, despite the best intentions, lead you astray.

When consulting a professional, make sure that they are measurably successful and genuinely getting the results you are looking for.
