The Importance of Internal Validation for Conscious Writers

July 7, 2018

A few days ago I met up with a friend and colleague who’s just finished the first draft of the book she’s been working on for more than a year.

She was delighted to have completed the manuscript on time, and even more importantly, feels elated by the way it has turned out.

Having not written anything longer than articles and blog posts before, initially she wasn’t sure if she had what it takes to write a full length book.

Now she’s done so in a way that feels to her like “mission accomplished”, and whatever happens from this point on, nothing can take away her strong sense of creative achievement.

Internal Validation

In a recent post on The Creative Power of Deadlines, I shared my own experience of feeling an immense degree of internal validation when I completed the manuscript for my book Conscious Writing.

There’s nothing quite like the inner sense that you’ve created something from nothing in a way that’s delivered the deepest and most authentic expression of your message in the best way you’re able to at the time.

Finding Your Conscious Writing Rhythm – Part 1

June 6, 2018

One of the topics that always comes up in mentoring sessions with people who are making the transition from thinking about writing to taking action is how to find a good writing rhythm.

This is such an important subject that I’ve decided to do a couple of posts covering the key practical aspects to consider.

Let’s start by exploring the question…

WHEN?
As a general rule, putting your writing first works for most people most of the time.

This means that you ideally start the day with some kind of energy and/or meditation practice and then write before anything else.

Even if you only spend 15 or 20 minu tes writing, at least you’ve fulfilled your commitment to your creative impulse before you tackle other tasks.

The Writing Habit

Just 15 minutes a day quickly builds the writing habit you need to establish if you want to take your writing seriously.

However, this approach doesn’t work for everyone. Some writers love the early evening twilight zone or come alive creatively at the end of the day and well into the night.

As long as whatever you choose is sustainable and produces the results you’re aiming for, it’s serving its intended purpose.

Completion Not Perfection

May 4, 2018

As a successful coach with a thriving practice, Sarah loved her work and enjoyed supporting her clients to identify and pursue their true priorities in life.

However, she was constantly over-delivering, felt depleted as a result, and harboured a secret sense of shame.

She’d always wanted to write and share the lessons she’d learned from many years of spiritual, personal and professional growth.

Yet despite several attempts to apply her wide-ranging skills to the written word, she kept getting stuck and just couldn’t find her flow.

Despite her professional success, she felt like she was failing.

Who You Become

December 7, 2017

In a recent mentoring session with a new client I’ll call Sarah, I found myself explaining a perspective that’s a core principle of my conscious and creative approach to living and writing.

Who you become is just as important as what you create, write, say and do in the world.

In fact it’s essential because who you are and the state of consciousness you’re in doesn’t just determine the quality of your self-expression, it directly impacts your whole experience of life.

Sabotage

Sarah understood this principle intellectually but was struggling to apply it.

She was so focused on being of service to the people she felt inspired to help that she was driving herself hard to make it all happen “yesterday” and causing herself a great deal of stress in the process.

The irony was that the more she pushed to achieve the results she was striving for, the slower her progress and the more frustration she felt.

Who she was becoming as a result of her approach was not only detrimental to her health but also sabotaging the whole project!

The Value of Space in the Creative Cycle

August 15, 2017

Right now I’m consciously choosing to take a creative pause and immerse myself in the space of unlimited potential.

Of course I’m continuing to honour my regular writing and client commitments (which I love!) but I’m holding fire on planning any major new projects.

Instead, I’m wrapping up the final full stops on the visible and invisible actions required for everything so far, and stepping into the space of “not knowing” to see what comes to greet me.

The Feminine Approach

I always find that when I create internal and external space with a clear intention to remain open to whatever arises new possibilities soon start to appear on the horizon.

Having released my conditioning to “make everything happen”, I’ve shifted into living the reality of allowing, receiving and remaining alert for the next golden thread(s) I feel inspired to follow to be revealed.

This feminine approach enables new ideas and opportunities to take the shape they need to take and gradually come into full view without being pushed or driven or made to fit some intellectual concept of what they “should” be.

The Creative Cycle

Space is one of the most overlooked aspects of the creative cycle.

Yet in the many years of my personal and professional experience I’ve discovered that it’s essential for original insights and authentic ideas to emerge from the realms beyond the filters of the ordinary conditioned mind.

The Iceberg Approach to Conscious Writing

June 9, 2017

I often use the image of an iceberg to represent the way I teach Conscious Writing.

It’s a powerful illustration because it’s so clear that the 10% you see above the surface of the water simply wouldn’t be there if it weren’t for the 90% underneath.

For Conscious Writers, the visible 10% equates to the words that meet the page.

The hidden 90% includes all of the unseen preparation and preliminary creative work that’s required for the right words to arise for the most authentic and effective communication of your ideas and stories.

Inner Preparation

That’s why I place so much emphasis on inner preparation before starting to write.

Paying attention to “who you are” and “where you’re at” when you sit down to craft the words to share your message with your readers makes all the difference in the world.

No one will see the 90% preparation before the essence of your ideas shows up in the form of words; yet at some level they will feel the distinction of writing that comes from a deeper source.

Time to follow through on your dreams…

February 22, 2017

The weeks are zipping by and I’m inspired to reach out to you today to say that if your good intentions for 2017 are starting to fade already, you’re not alone!

When the New Year impulse for a ‘fresh start’ meets the reality of everyday life, it’s all too easy to lose sight of what’s truly important to you as the endless list of commitments takes over.

Even when you know that you’d like to explore your creative ideas, write and make the shift into the next phase of your life, it’s tough to go it alone, especially in such turbulent and uncertain times.

Walking the Path with Guidance and Support

Fortunately, there’s an alternative and it comes in the form of walking the path with intuitive guidance and practical support.

If you’ve never worked with a mentor before, it’s hard to imagine just how amazingly helpful and transformative the journey can be with this kind of partnership in place.

So this is my invitation for you to experience that for yourself.

If you’re as ready as you’ll ever be to follow through on your dreams and express yourself authentically in the world with a professional mentor guiding you every step of the way, now is the perfect moment!

My new six month Mentoring Series starts in MARCH…

It provides a rhythm, structure and positive accountability for you to begin, develop or complete your current priorities with regular guidance and feedback to ensure you’re always on track with your core purpose.

Everything you need to know about what’s on offer, how the Mentoring works and the three different packages available can be found by clicking here.

My speciality is to bring deep intuitive insight to open the way for you to reconnect with the essence of who you are and express your true calling consciously and creatively in the world.

There are only 5 places available because of the in-depth nature of our work together and these are offered on a first come basis.

If you’re interested to find out more, simply email Julia@JuliaMcCutchen.com to book a FREE 20 minute Discovery Session so we can discuss the details and make sure this is the right way forwards for you.

I’ll look forward to hearing from you and I hope to have the opportunity to guide you to follow through on your dreams at this significant moment in time.

Conscious Journaling to Clear Your Mind, Open Your Heart and Unlock Your Creativity

November 8, 2016

journal-431912_640I’ve written a journal on and off for many years and have always felt the benefit of doing so. It complements the ‘project writing’ I do beautifully and periodically I’m reminded of just how much I appreciate having this superb tool in my creative treasury!

Journal writing has supported me in so many ways to navigate the waves of transformation as I release what no longer fits my current reality and make the transition into the next phase of my life and my work.

Right now, I’m inspired to remind you that a conscious and creative approach to journaling, what I call Yin-Style or Conscious Journaling, is an extremely valuable practice that is well worth making a priority in your life. In fact it’s one of the five core practices of Conscious Writing. Here’s why, and how… (more…)
